I grab a banana and Mountain Dew then head to Precision Auto again. They are not open yet so I search for cheap gas. When I fill up, I am surprised. 14 MPG. Did the new fuel pump help?
I head back and in a few minutes they open. I get to the desk and exclaim "The van loved the service yesterday so much, it decided to come back today"
The tire is close to bald and most tire shops would not patch a tire so old. They do have a used tire in my size and the price of 30 bucks is right on. I guess after yesterday's bill they figured I couldn't afford a new one. They find the rim is bent and fix that too. As I leave the lady says "Remember we are closed on Saturday and Sunday. If you want to visit again you will need to come back on Monday."
I get back to camp we fold the trailer and head off. We head towards Durango, it's a beautiful drive filled with mountain views, water falls, and more small twisty roads now with road construction.
Alisa gets a hold of the camera and is taking pictures while we drive. She now has been infected with the shutter bug. Alisa is hanging out the window to get the best shot. I guess she is over her fear of heights.
I forget how many times we get stuck at the road construction spots. As the clock ticks away while sitting in a long line of cars, we figure we can't make it Durango for the museum Alisa wanted to check out. So I suggest a mine tour in Silverton. We are almost there. We go to the Old Hundred Mine and find they closed 5 minutes before we got there, and their last tour left at 3.
We decide to see if we can ride the train in Durango. We get there and there is not a lot of places to park, with a trailer. We finally find a public parking lot that we can fit in and then head to the train station. 75 bucks for each 12 and up and 45 each for Derek and Kyle. That's a lot of dough. Let's eat dinner. All the places were minimum 18 bucks a plate. Yikes! We find a Dennys near where we parked.
We head to the local KOA but they don't take Discover. We need to discover the possibilities because I emptied our bank account into the gas tank. We check the KOA in Cortez and they have a spot and take Discover. So we head there. The campground is ok but the view is spectacular.
Alisa and I sit on the swing behind our site, overlooking the valley. As the moon is coming up over the mountain in the distance. We look into each others eyes, wondering if we are thinking the same thing. I say in a sweet tone, "It's cold. I'm tired. I want to sleep."
Yep she was thinking the same. We turn on the heat in the camper and crawl in to bed.
Tomorrow: At last, the last day.
